Fire Division

The Fire Division is a full service life safety organization protecting about 20 square miles and nearly 40,000 people who live and work in the City of Spartanburg.  The Fire Chief leads a staff of 77 sworn and civilian dedicated fire protection professionals.  The Division is comprised of three organizational units.  Sixty-nine fire fighters and fire officers provide fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous material responses, and other services from five fire stations 24-hours daily.  The Office of Fire Prevention is staffed by a Fire Marshal and three fire inspectors, and delivers comprehensive code enforcement, plans review, public education, and investigative programs.  Fire prevention and suppression personnel are supported by a training officer, a heavy apparatus mechanic, and an administrative aide.  The Division’s motto, “Preservation through Prevention”, is an expression of its commitment to building and maintaining a safe, prosperous, and vibrant community through effective fire prevention and emergency preparedness programs.  The Division holds an ISO class 2 rating, and is one of only 122 fire departments nationwide to achieve international accreditation through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.
