The Animal Services Division is responsible for the general welfare of our City's citizens with regards to animal incidents, and animals within Spartanburg's City limits. We are currently staffed by two National Animal Control Association (NACA) certified officers. We are officers serving under the Spartanburg Public Safety Department's Major Steve Lamb.
Our mission is focused on compliance through education. On an individual basis, we attempt to educate citizens concerning animal issues. Within the community, we hold events such as Bark in the Park, and "Don't Hesistate Come Vaccinate" as our outreach efforts. However, when neccessary, citations are issued. These citations are heard at the City of Spartanburg's Municipal Court on Mondays at 11:00am.
Concerning our animals, we are focused on their welfare and maintenance. We do accept anonymous complaints or tips concerning animal welfare or violations.
Generally speaking, animals within the city limits must have the following:
- Dogs and Cats must wear city license and rabies tags at all times
- Dogs and Cats must be restrained on their owner(s) properties at all times
- Proper shelter must be provided for outside pets (4 walls and a roof and floor)
- All animals must have access to clean water at all times
- Chained animals must have at least a 10 foot long chain with a swivel link
- Exotic Animals are NOT permitted
Please refer to our Online Documents for more detailed information concerning topics such as Ordinances, Fines, and other information.

Our regular hours of operation are Monday through Friday (8am-5pm), however we may be called out to respond to verfiable life-threatening emergencies concerning animals and people in their area.
