Criminal Investigations Division
The Criminal Investigation Division (CID), which is supervised by a Sergeant and Lieutenant has the responsibility of developing information leading to the arrest of criminal offenders, preparing cases, recovering stolen property, locating missing persons, focusing attention on violence in families and servicing the victims of violent crime. In addition to the investigative function, employees responsible for crime prevention, latent examinations, crime scene processing, gang investigations, burglary reduction and youth violence reduction are assigned to CID. Additionally, an investigator is assigned to the local Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) task force.
The cases followed up by investigators fall into one of three broad categories: (1) Crimes Against Persons (2) Crimes Against Property, and (3) Financial Crimes. Typically, Investigators concentrate in one category, but may be assigned cases from either category as workloads dictate.
