Motorcycles

Motorcycles have proven to be a valuable tool for the Spartanburg Public Safety Department since 1996.  Motor officers provide increased police visibility in the community.  The police motorcycles allow officers to more easily travel through congested areas of the city, and they have been extremely valuable in the detection and apprehension of subjects involved in criminal activity.  The department currently maintains a fleet of seven (7) motorcycles all of which are Kawasaki’s.

The Spartanburg Public Safety Department’s motor officer rides year round with exceptions during icy conditions and extremely low temperatures.  Motorcycle operators are responsible for traffic issues, handling regular calls for service such as assaults, domestic incidents, and crimes in progress.  All officers are required to pass an eighty (80) hour basic police motorcycle course which is certified through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.  The motorcycle unit continues to focus on new training methods to enhance their riding skills and abilities. Currently officers train regularly and all motor officers are required to recertify twice annually
