Public Safety’s Report to the Citizens
The Office of Professional Standards and
Inspection is responsible to investigate any report of
alleged misconduct, inappropriate behavior, officer
involved shooting, or any other situation of importance
that warrant a thorough and objective investigation.
This document reflects the investigations for the
calendar years 2005 -
2007.

2007
For the year 2007, the Office of Professional Standards
and Inspections conducted a total of one hundred and
thirty six (136) investigations. Eighty six (86)
investigations were conducted due to citizen complaints,
twenty two (22) were internal complaints and thirty five
(35) were collisions involving departmental vehicles.

Definitions:
Exonerated-Incident occurred, but actions
were lawful and proper.
Sustained-The allegation did occur.
Not Sustained-Insufficient evidence to prove
or disprove the allegations.
Policy Failure-The allegation is true, but
the investigation reveals policy or procedural
changes are necessary.
Unfounded-Allegation is false or the incident
as alleged did not occur.
Pending-Final disposition has not been
reached.
2006
The Office of Professional Standards and Inspections
conducted a total of eighty-nine (93) investigations. Of
this number, eleven (11) were internal investigations,
twenty-seven (27) were traffic accident investigations
or vehicle damage, and the remaining fifty-five (55)
were citizen complaints.

With a 38% decrease in accidents
from 2005.
All preventable accidents resulted
in remedial drivers training to coincide with policy and
the early warning system.

2005
The Office of Professional Standards and Inspections
conducted a total of eighty-nine (89) investigations. Of
this number, eight (8) were internal investigations,
forty three (43) were traffic accident investigations or
vehicle damage, and the remaining thirty eight (38) were
citizen complaints.

With a 60% increase in
NON-PREVENTABLE accidents from 2005, overall the (43)
collisions in 2005 only rose 20% from 2004.
All preventable accidents resulted
in remedial drivers training to coincide with policy and
the early warning system.
Only three (3) employees were
involved in more than one accident. One officer had one
preventable and one non-preventable, with the other two
having two preventable accidents.
